Otawara Institute of Art Cultural Studies, Otawara, Japon
Since 2017, AAB member artists have been invited to participate in the annual “Geta Box” exhibition at the Otawara Institute of Art Cultural Studies.
The Japanese collective is housed in a former abandoned school, which still features the original cabinet where geta (下駄, traditional Japanese wooden shoes) used to be stored. This cabinet has been transformed into an exhibition display for small-scale artworks designed to be handled by visitors.
“I want people to feel the beauty of artworks held in their hands.” Kodai Hinohara, Director of the Center
Numerous artists from Belleville have taken part in the exhibition in Japan: Catherine Arnaud, Annie Barel, Ayse Basyazicioglu-Gezen, Emmanuel Benito, Laurent Bergstrasser, Angela Bonavita, Josiane Chabel, Guillaume Confais, Marjolaine Degremont, Béatrice Desrousseaux, Fontaine de la Mare, Lika Kato, Marie Danielle Koechlin, Mama, Emilie Moutsis, Emma Nony, Stephan Norsic, Catherine Olivier, Abigail Nunes, Dominique Pilet, Mireille Roustit, Leo Villemin, Jean-Charles Yaïch.
