ARTISTS’ TERRITORIES

This project proposes a meeting between two groups of artists: the AAB (Ateliers d’Artistes de Belleville) in Paris and the História e Arte gallery (Tempo Liquido cultural association), located in Bragança (Portugal).

The aim is to create a closer relationship between our two territories, Belleville and Bragança (capital of the Trás-os-Montes region, Northeast Portugal). One is overpopulated, with cramped creative spaces situated in a constraining urban environment, while the other is imbued with nature and enjoys a spacious urban territory.

In May 2016, for the first stage of the exchange, we hosted Emília Nogueiro, head of the História e Arte gallery, three resident artists, Carmelo Calvo (photographer), João Ferreira (sculptor), Miguel Silva (visual artist), as well as Antonio Fernandes (mask-making artisan). They all share a critical perspective on the territory and a common respect for ancestrality.

In the summer of 2017, for the second stage of the project, the História e Arte gallery welcomed the Belleville artists to Bragança for the exhibition “Encontro” (Vernissage on July 7, 2017). Guest artists included: Paola Afonso, Claire Archenault, Lika Kato, Michèle Rizet, Luna Vaz.
