Catherine Arnaud really loves stone. She loves its density, its resistance, and its perpetuity in time. She works directly with the stone, even the hardest granite doesn’t frighten her, nor does she think of it as being a physical combat but on the contrary she establishes a real dialogue with the stone, a different conversation with each piece. Every time Catherine looks for complicity and intimacy with the stone. I’s all about discovering the secrets of the block of stone with which she is faced, a block that appears to be waiting for and almost spying on her. For Caterine, a new journey begins with each stone, a new discovery, one that needs to be tamed; she must gain its confidence so that the sculpture which lurks, hidden deep within the block of rough stone, can emerge.
