CATHY BION
Photographie

Port-La-Forêt 3
Cathy Bion is a visual artist based in Paris, whose tool is not a brush but a camera.
Harbours are her favorite subject and for more than 25 years, she has been travelling all around the world to capture their essence, from Morocco to Brittany, Portugal to Australia, or Normandy to Mexico…
In the radiant light of the docks, she captures colours and materials with a painter’s eye, the fragments of man’s collaboration with the elements of nature, in order to preserve those moments of beauty.
Cathy’s artwork is abstract and always unretouched, producing an effect not dissimilar to painting ; her research concerns on the memory of ports, these poetic place whose numbers are declining over time under the growing threat to maritime ecosystems.
The photobook Couleurs d’alizés (Trade winds colours), showcasing her art and featuring writings from art critics has been published by Critères Editions in
2010. She has been exhibiting her work in France and abroad (Japan, Morocco, Australia, Hong-Kong, Mexico, USA) ; the French and foreign press regularly reports on her work.
